Nordic Web Archive

WERA

WERA (Web aRchive Access) is an archive viewer application that gives an Internet Archive Wayback Machine-like access to web archive collections as well as the possibility to do full text search and easy navigation between different versions of a web page.

WERA is based on, and replaces the NwaToolset. It was built using PHP and Java and utilizes open standards like the http protocol and XML extensively for communication between different parts of the system.

WERA needs the NutchWAX search engine to offer full-text search and page navigation.

Background

The Nordic Web Archive (NWA) was the Nordic National Libraries' forum for co-ordination and exchange of experience in the fields of harvesting and archiving web documents.

In 2000 the NWA cooperation started developing the NWA Toolset, a software package for accessing archived web documents. The activity was funded by Nordunet2, NORDINFO and the Nordic National Libraries.

In 2003 the individual members of NWA joined the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC).
